Practical Application of Theory/Models in “Real World” Situations

For this Assignment, you will identify a public health issue (topic) and a target population from within your community. The specific community health issue and target population selected for this intervention must be a verifiable health topic and target in your specific community. Then, using any of the theories/models discussed in this course, you will create an intervention to address this public health issue. The constructs of the theory/model chosen must be used in the creation of the intervention to address the selected population health issue. The resulting intervention must attempt to impact health behaviors or threats to the health and well-being of the selected target population.

This Assignment is about being creative and innovative, within the confines of evidence-based theory and producing an intervention. Your intervention can be either a one-time shot or long-term program that could be of value in addressing the specific need within the community in which you reside. Budget is not necessarily a concern here, so go wild if you like! Grading for this assignment will consider the following:

  • Understanding of the theory/model chosen
  • Feasibility of the intervention created based on the theory/model constructs
  • Level of creativity in addressing an identified community issue
  •

To prepare:

  • Explain why you chose the particular public health issue within your community. (Examples might be alcohol use reduction for teens at prom, anti-smoking campaigns for construction workers, HIV/AIDS education programs for elementary students, disease prevention and health promotion for seniors at a long-term care facility, or increasing diagnostic testing participation for colonoscopies with middle-class women over 60 years of age.)
  •
  • The specific topic and target population must be selected from your community and must be a verifiable issue. To be verifiable, it must have been a newspaper story, a health department memo or newsletter, a city proclamation, or any issue for which you can provide actual documentation, to verify, that the issue you chose was one currently or recently occurring in your community. That documentation must be provided with your response.

Choose a specific theory or model, and explain why you are using this one in creating an intervention to address this public health issue. Your intervention must use the constructs of the theory/model and must be specific to the target group, for that topic, in your community. For example, the Social-Ecological Model (discussed last MOD) is composed of levels, namely interpersonal, intrapersonal, institutional, community, and societal. It is based on the belief that change within the physical and social environments will also influence health behavior within individuals. Consequently, if one chose the SEM as their theory/model, emphasis on the 5 levels would be critical. If, on the other hand, the Social Capital Theory was chosen, it is based on networks and relationships, with the two important factors being trust and reciprocity. Or you can use the Precede-Proceed model. So, your intervention most certainly would address cooperation, working together, and building strong bonds for healthy relationships and communities.

Write a 7 page paper (not including title page and references) that includes the following:

  • Title page
  • Introduction of public health issue and target population with documentation and brief explanation

Theory/model to be employed in addressing issue (explain why you chose this theory/model) (Social-Ecological Model, Precede-Proceed model, Theory of Reasoned Action/Planned Behavior, Health Belief Model,

  • Identify the constructs of the theory/model and explain how they apply to your community issue
  • At least one paragraph specifically describing your intervention for each construct
  • Evaluation of intervention
  • Conclusion

Q0. Applying the Theories of Reasoned Action/Planned Behavior and the Trans theoretical Model to Health Care

Creating educational interventions to help improve the overall health of a target population is an essential skill for public health and health education professionals. Intervening in peoples’ lives to positively impact their health and well-being can also be rewarding. However, it is essential that the creation of educational interventions is done using the appropriate tools and skills and that you carefully select and apply theories and models to attain the best results possible.

For this Assignment, you will use the Theory of Reasoned Action/Planned Behavior to design an educational plan to counter a trend within your selected topic related to your assigned target.

To prepare:

  • Download the Topics document found in your Resources and select a topic from the list below.
  • Review the Resources below.

Your target population to focus on for this Assignment is female sex workers

Q4. W6: Ergogenic Aids/Supplements

Contains unread posts

Many people, athletes included, use ergogenic aids or supplements. Go to

the following website, British Journal of Sports Medicine and read the IOC’s

latest on supplements. If you cannot access the article from the web, a PDF

version is attached to this discussion.

This week, we will discuss ergogenic aids and/or supplements. From the list

below, select one ergogenic aid/supplement. You must pick one of the

ergogenic aids listed below. Do not use an ergogenic aid/supplement

someone else has chosen. Once you have found an ergogenic

aid/supplement, go to the Week 6 discussion and see if anyone has posted

that ergogenic aid/supplement. If the ergogenic aid/supplement is not

present, then open a new thread and type the ergogenic aid/supplement in

the thread’s title box. This task will reserve that ergogenic aid/supplement

for you. You can add the required initial discussion information any time

before the expected due date. To add your discussion after posting your

supplement title, select edit thread.

Now go to the APUS online library and find one published, peer-reviewed

research article in a journal on that particular ergogenic aid. Do not

use Muscle Magazine or a similar magazine because these are for the lay

public and are not peer-reviewed. The journal article you select should be a

research study that shows how your selected ergogenic aid/supplement

affects athletic performance, positively or negatively.

A research article is not a review article. A research article reports the

results of a research study. You can tell the difference between a research

article and a review article because a review article summarizes several

research studies.

Looking for a peer-reviewed research article?

If you cannot find a research article in the APUS online library, go to the

following website: PubMed . In the search bar at the top, enter the

ergogenic aid you selected.

Your initial discussion thread should contain the following information:

1. State the ergogenic aid in the subject line.

2. State your selected ergogenic aid.

3. Provide the reference for your selected article using the format

shown below.

4. Describe how your particular ergogenic aid enhances athletic

performance.

5. Describe the study methods, design, and results so the class can

understand the conclusions.

6. State the study conclusions.

7. Evaluate the article. For example, does the study make appropriate

conclusions from its data? Was the study designed correctly to

address the hypothesis?

Q5. This assignment provides you with an opportunity to summarize ethics in financial responsibilities and to evaluate ethical considerations of executive compensation by writing a persuasive essay. In your essay, take a position on the following topics, and support it with evidence. Evidence can be facts, statistics, and quotes from scholarly articles, reliable news sources, or even anecdotal examples from personal experience. You may use any of the readings from this course, or you may find new ones to support your position. At least two pieces of evidence should be used (one for each topic).

  1. Do you think executive compensation in its various parts (i.e., salary, stock options, severance packages) funded at the current level is unethical? If so, how would you revise the compensation so that it was just? On what basis would you change it? Does the government have a role to play? If so, in what manner?
  2. Is the Sarbanes-Oxley Act too strict, not strict enough, or just right? Explain.

Your essay should be at least 500 words in length, double-spaced, and written in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Use APA Style to format your citations.

Assignments for Google Analytics (I’ve added sections that specifically address where you can find details to help with this part of the assignment.) Your assignment should be a minimum of 1500 words. (I’ve included this information in Week 5 where you can submit your work.)

1. (GA Section 2.2-2.3) In the GA Master Account (viewed in the Demo Account), provide a screen shot and describe three (3) pieces of data from the metrics (widgets) on your screen. As you scroll down the Demo Account, you can also note metrics related to demographics, language, country, etc. Suggest some action or insights from the data.
(EX: The bounce rate is 70%. The bounce rate shows….. For a typical site, the bounce rate should be…. This would be considered high given last month’s data. We should review any changes to the site recently. We should monitor site traffic …..)
(EX: New visitor’s account for only 14% of site traffic. Given we launched new products (or the season is just starting, we would expect more visitors.)
(EX: Compare device categories across countries. Could differences across the countries affect how your content is designed and affect traffic?)

2. (GA Section 2.3) Full Reports: Discuss and show (using screen shots) audiences using the Google Merchandise site. You can compare these audiences using charts, pie charts and/or bar charts (specifically for performance with the bar charts). Think about the Audience Overview, the Full Report (at the bottom of the page).
(EX: What values are above or below average? What insights might you draw from this?)
3. (GA Section 2.5) Create a Dashboard with “widgets”: Create a Dashboard choosing data from the Demo Account that you find interesting. Add at least 4 “widgets” to your dashboard and briefly describe why you find them interesting. Use the email tool, and email me your Dashboard from your Demo Account.

4. (GA Section 3.3) Behavior Reports: Look at the data in these types of reports and assess and summarize your findings. Provide a screen shot to accompany your discussion.
(EX: Look at “low performing” and “high performing” pages and provide actions that the firm make take to address these outcomes.)

Business reengineering case study- Receive Goods

        Truck arrives at Company X

        Receiver confirms truck appointment and instructs truck driver which door to go to

        Receiver examines load for damage-if there is visible damage, the paperwork will go to Quality Assurance, Quality Assurance will provide a quarantine tag to the receiving clerk, the clerk gives the quarantine tag to the receiver who puts it on the material, then the paperwork goes from Quality Assurance to the Buyer who starts a damage claim

        Receiver offloads truck

        Receiver verifies all material is present and accounted for per the packing slip

        Receiver signs the paperwork and gives a copy to the driver

        Receiver takes the paperwork to the receiving office and drops it in the data entry tray

        When the clerk in the receiving office has time, he/she will take the papers from the entry tray and do the data entry

        The data entry includes: looking up the purchase order in the system and comparing the P.O data to the packing slip (if there are discrepancies, the packing slip is given to the buyer so that the supplier can be notified); if everything matches, the clerk enters the transaction; once the receipt transaction is done, the control # tag(s) (put away tag(s) will be printed in the receiving office

        The clerk takes the tag(s) to the Receiver whenever he/she leaves their workstation for breaks, lunch, etc

        When Receiver get the tag(s) from the clerk, they affix the tag to the piece or bundle

        The Receiver lets the Lead Hand/Supervisor know  that there is material to be put away the next time they see each other

        The Lead Hand/Supervisor lets the Order Filler know that there is material in receiving to be put away

        The Order Filler goes to receiving, picks up the material and locates a place to store the material (there may be several iterations of this throughout the day)

        Order Filler stores the material and notes the location on the log sheet

        Log sheets are turned into the Lead Hand/Supervisor when the log page is full

        Lead Hand/Supervisor enter the control number into the system

Notes: The current process can take up to 5 days, and needs to be reduced to 24 hours; and there is often not enough room in the receiving area to offload the goods because the night shift people have a tendency to fill up the space with product digging out what they need to work on during their shift; the supervisor and Lead Hands do not “trust” the Receivers to put away the material in a timely fashion, so they intervene, and direct the Order Fillers to put material away.

1.      Create a swim lane flow diagram of the process listed above.

2.      Provide an assessment of this process by enabler.

We will need to write a 3800 words Marketing report, at least 12 academic Journal used, Font size 12, Times new roman.

  3. Detailed Systems Design (Completes the design of the system’s processes, technical specifications, data dictionary, ERD diagram, training principles and methodologies.)
  4. Implementation (Database is actually created and is customized by the creation of tables and views, user authorizations, etc. During this implementation phase, the database enters into a cycle of coding, testing, and debugging until it is ready.)
  5. Maintenance (During this phase, end-users can begin to request change in it.)

You may copy and paste elements from past assignments that apply to the SDLC:

The presentation should include the following elements of the proposal:

  1. State the project problem and explain the role of the database in the organization.
  2. Identify database users (personnel/credentials): Who are they? What are their competencies and background?
  3. Discuss the types of data that users will collect for the proposed database and the types of reports that will be generated for analysis.
  4. Describe the project goals and clear measurable objectives for the database.
  5. Provide examples of database schema components: database dictionary and ERD diagram.
  6. Demonstrate database functions by providing a screenshot of basic MySQL statements and their outcomes for at least four rows: Statements include: CREATE TABLE, ALTER TABLE, QUERY TABLE, ADD A NEW COLUMN, QUERY – COLUMN FUNCTIONS, ADD A NEW ROW, QUERY – AGGREGATION, MULTI-TABLE-QUERIES – JOINING, and QUERY – MULTI-TABLE.
  7. Explain policies, procedures, and regulations (HIPAA) to assure security, privacy, and integrity of the database proposal.
  8. Forecast any potential problems or barriers to meeting the project goals and objectives. Are there any specific assumptions that need to be made?
  9. Conclude with the value of the project, emphasizing feasibility, necessity, usefulness, and the benefit of the expected results.

Question 451  Suicide Assessment

The incidence of suicide in this country is a serious public health problem. Check out the attached articles related to suicide assessment measures. Also check out the following site. It’s got lots of great and useful information: www.suicide.org If you were to design a suicide detection/outreach/assessment plan for a community college environment, what would you include? How specifically would you assess the potential for suicide within that population? How would you go about implementing the plan? What would need to be taken into consideration?

Question 452  Disorders Featuring Somatic Symptoms

Read the attached article related to psychological factors in heart disease. The major causes of morbidity (illness) and mortality (death) have changed in the last century. In the early 1900s, viruses and bacteria were the leading causes of death. Medical advances, such as antibiotics, vaccinations, and improvements in sanitation have helped to stamp out these causes. Presently, leading causes of death include heart disease (related to smoking, eating, not exercising, being overweight, drinking too much), cancer, motor vehicle accidents, and suicide. What do these causes all have in common? What does it mean for the overall status of our nation’s health? Psychology is becoming increasingly important in overall health care. In particular, the field is health psychology is emerging as an important area of the health care system. In your opinion, in what ways is psychology important in medical health? What factors are to be considered? What sort of treatment interventions do you believe will start to become mainstream in physical and integrative health?

Question 453 Eating Disorders- Minnesota Starvation Experiment

Performed between 1944-1945, this study revolutionized the way medical and mental health professionals conceptualized eating disorders and the effects of starvation. Check out this article describing the experiment: http://www.apa.org/monitor/2013/10/hunger.aspx This video is a first-hand account from one of the participants. It’s a little over 20 minutes long. http://www.epi.umn.edu/cvdepi/video.asp?id=4047 And, a short article: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/hunger-artist/201011/starvation-study-shows-recovery-anorexia-is-possible-only-regaining-weight Reactions? What do you think about an experiment like this? What can be learned about eating disorders? How can we apply the findings to present day individuals suffering from eating disorders?

Question 454 Cost-Effectiveness and Cost-Benefit Analysis

This week, you will choose one of the below articles and write a critique on the cost-effectiveness\cost-benefit studies presented in your article of choice. Your 2-3 page paper should demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned thus far about good methodological practices and the decisions and assumptions made by those conducting the study. Articles: A cost-effectiveness study of caesarean-section deliveries by clinical officers, general practitioners, and obstetricians in Brukina Faso Cost analysis of an integrated disease surveillance and response system: case of Burkina Faso, Eritrea, and Mali As part of your analysis, you will critique the analysis that was done in the articles from three different perspectives: the consumer, board member, and evaluator perspective. Also, discuss what you would have done differently. If you were to administer of this program based on what was found in the study, what recommendations would you make to the head of the agency concerning this program? This paper should be 2-3 pages double spaced and written in proper APA format. In addition to the minimum page count (i.e. 2 pages and 1 line minimum), you should also include a cover page and a reference page in APA format. Additionally use a minimum of one additional source outside of your textbook to support your points.

Question 455 Literature Search and Levels of Evidence

This assessment requires you to explore the literature to find 2 research articles that are examples of 2 different levels on the levels of evidence hierarchy. Objectives Understand the research levels of evidence hierarchy (pyramid) Demonstrate effective data base search strategies Identify studies by level of evidence

Question 456 Discussion on qualitative research

Prompt: This week, you explored the use of qualitative research as applied to the program evaluation process. After reading in your text, discuss the following: What are the key characteristics of qualitative evaluation methods? What are the benefits of including qualitative data in the evaluation process? Do you believe that an evaluator can deliver and complete a valid evaluation of a program without including qualitative data? Why or why not? What is the value in using a mixed-methods design over a strictly quantitative or qualitative design?

Question 457 Reliability

Imagine you are a part of a group tasked to reduce DUI incidences in your area. Your local law enforcement has decided to set up mandatory check points on four roadways that leave the local college town. These DUI check points are conducted one Friday a month from 10:00pm until 2:00am. Local residents are concerned that these mandatory checkpoints might causing more harm than good and would like to discuss how valid your plan is as a means of reducing DUI in your area. Given this scenario try to explain how you define the key variables “under the influence” and “checkpoint” to make sure your study will be both valid and reliable. Furthermore, address the following questions from your local residents: •Content validity- what drugs will you be checking for with your DUI checks and why? •Construct validity- how will you define under the influence, and why? •Face validity- what will the checkpoints look like to drivers passing by and why? •Test-retest reliability-will there be a difference between road sobriety checkpoints and measured data at the station? •Inter-rater reliability-if two officers disagree as to whether a driver is under the influence, how will you break the tie? •Error- what will you do to reduce the likelihood of false positives for your DUI checkpoint?

Question 458 Lifespan Development Developmental Periods

Directions: For each developmental period, discuss the physical, socioemotional, and cognitive developmental theories, and identify the theorists. Include any concerns/issues that might arise during each developmental period. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines. Each description should be a minimum of 50 words with two to three outside references, not including your textbook, for each developmental period. You will add information to the chart as you study and research each developmental group throughout the course. You will summarize your information each week in discussion questions. Plan your time accordingly for the DQ deadline. The entire chart, filled out completely, is due to your instructor at the end of Topic 8. Question 460 Lab Classical Conditioning

Psychology – Lab Classical Conditioning or “In Your Face!” This lab suggests an effective and memorable way to demonstrate several concepts related to classical conditioning, including the following: learning curve, acquisition, unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, conditioned response, stimulus generalization, stimulus discrimination, extinction, and spontaneous recovery. The basic procedure is to squirt a student in the face while a long list of words is being read. Only when the word “can” is heard do you squirt the student. Eventually, hearing the word “can” by itself will cause various conditioned responses. Step 1. Get a couple of assistants and gather up the following equipment: A water-filled squirt gun or a spray bottle, a large plastic garbage bag with a hole cut in it (to protect the subject’s clothes) or a plastic hair salon cape; a towel, pencil and paper, and this lab package. Step 2. Select the subject and place the garbage bag over him/her so that his/her head sticks out through the hole. Explain that a list of words will be read loudly and at certain predetermined times, a squirt of water will strike him in the face. The water is clean and will cause no harm. Step 3. Read the list of words loudly while the other experimenter watches the subject’s reactions and makes notes. Whenever you read the uppercase word, “CAN” squirt the subject. On the lowercase “can” or any other word, do nothing but continue to read. Squirt just after you read “CAN.” Throughout the experiment, the subject keeps his/her eyes closed both for safety and to avoid the use of any visual stimulus cues from your facial expressions or hand movements. Read the words at a steady rate of about one per second. Try to keep your voice even. Read all the words, including “CAN,” in the same fairly loud voice. Try to persuade the other experimenter and any “observers” from laughing or talking during the experiment. Step 4. After the experiment concludes, hand the subject a towel and give him/him a generous “thank you.” Talk with the subject about feelings he/she may have experienced. Take notes. Step 5. Write up the experiment identifying the following classical conditioning concepts in the context of this experiment: – acquisition (note that at first, the word “can” itself caused no special response. but after repeated pairings of “can” and the water, the word “can” by itself became gradually more and more likely to cause a learned response.) – unconditioned stimulus – unconditioned response – conditioned stimulus – conditioned response – stimulus generalization (hint: after conditioning occured, was there any reaction to words that sounded like “can” (e.g., ban, ran, van, fan, tan,

If certified as police officers, the individuals will likely be required at some future time to exercise significant physical strength and undergo high emotional stress. As the examining psychologist, you are required to comment on the applicants’ social comprehension, judgment, impulse control, potential for violence, and/or any psychological traits that might render her or him psychologically at risk to be certified. The state requires that each applicant’s examination include the following elements: Interview and History: The psychologist must personally interview the applicant and provide a summary of the applicant’s personal, educational, employment, and criminal history. Required Personality Test: The applicant shall be administered any current standard form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) by the licensed psychologist who interviewed the individual, or by a paraprofessional employed by and under the direct control and supervision of that licensed psychologist. To recommend certification: I have examined [insert applicant’s name], and it is my professional opinion that this person is psychologically capable of exercising appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer. Follow the above statement with a one-paragraph rationale for your conclusion based on the available test results. Follow the rationale with a brief comparison of any additional assessment instruments you might consider administering beyond the MMPI-2-RF. Debate the pros and cons of the potential use of other assessments. Explain any ethical implications that may arise from the interpretation of this data. To communicate reservations: I have examined [insert applicant’s name], and it is my professional opinion that this person is psychologically at risk for exercising appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer. Follow the statement with a one-paragraph rationale for your conclusion based on the available test results. Question 492 Psychological Treatment Plan

To understand the treatment planning process, students will assume the role of a clinical or counseling psychologist and develop a comprehensive treatment plan based on the same case study utilized for the Psychiatric Diagnosis assignment in PSY645. A minimum of five peer-reviewed resources must be used to support the recommendations made within the plan. The Psychological Treatment Plan must include the headings and content outlined below. ***Behaviorally Defined Symptoms *Define the client’s presenting problem(s) and provide a diagnostic impression. *Identify how the problem(s) is/are evidenced in the client’s behavior. *List the client’s cognitive and behavioral symptoms. ***Long-Term Goal *Generate a long-term treatment goal that represents the desired outcome for the client. This goal should be broad and does not need to be measureable. ***Short-Term Objectives *Generate a minimum of three short-term objectives for attaining the long-term goal. Each objective should be stated in behaviorally measureable language. Subjective or vague objectives are not acceptable. For example, it should be stated that the objective will be accomplished by a specific date or that a specific symptom will be reduced by a certain percentage. ***Interventions *Identify at least one intervention for achieving each of the short-term objectives. *Compare a minimum of three evidence-based theoretical orientations from which appropriate interventions can be selected for the client. *Explain the connection between the theoretical orientation and corresponding intervention selected. *Provide a rationale for the integration of multiple theoretical orientations within this treatment plan. *Identify two to three treatment modalities (e.g., individual, couple, family, group, etc.) that would be appropriate for use with the client. It is a best practice to include outside providers (e.g., psychiatrists, medical doctors, nutritionists, social workers, holistic practitioners, etc.) in the intervention planning process to build a support network that will assist the client in the achievement of treatment goals. ***Evaluation *List the anticipated outcomes of each proposed treatment intervention based on scholarly literature. Be sure to take into account the individual’s strengths, weaknesses, external stressors, and cultural factors (e.g., gender, age, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc.) in the evaluation. *Provide an assessment of the efficacy of evidence-based intervention options. ***Ethics *Analyze and describe potential ethical dilemmas that may arise while implementing this treatment plan. *Cite specific ethical principles and any applicable law(s) for resolving the ethical dilemma(s). ***The Psychological Treatment Plan***

Question 500 What’s our study about

As you saw from the lab PowerPoint slides last week, you will be doing a research study looking at ‘Aggression Priming” for your first paper. For this week’s discussion, I want you to discuss with your group what you think this study is about. What is the hypothesis? What theory does it come from? What do you predict will happen (do you expect something different than the hypothesis in the researcher instructions? If so, what and why?)? Do you think this is a good, testable hypothesis? Where do you think the idea came from (systematic source, serendipity, everyday occurrence, non-systematic sources etc.?). Finally, do you see any ethical problems with this study? If so, how should you deal with those problems? With your discussion group, assess your project. I also want you to note one thing different you would do if you had the chance to design a similar study on your own (Hint: You’ll get the chance to build a follow-up study to this Aggression Priming study in a few weeks, so think about what you would do different right now and you may get the chance to follow through with that new study!).

Question 501 Steps for Creating Methodology

Using Figure 1.2 in Ch. 1 of Exploring Research, create a flowchart using Microsoft® Word or a similar program that helps you identify what research design to use for your research question. This is a flowchart that you will complete based on your research hypothesis and question. You will use it to determine the appropriate research research design that you should use. Your answers should lead you to only ONE choice. For example, the first question is whether you are looking at differences between groups. If you answer No, you follow those questions to arrive at the appropriate research design for your study. If you answer Yes to that first question, you answer the question to decide between a true experiment and a quasi-experimental research design. Provide enough information so that I can determine that you have answered the questions accurately. https://d3qlakwpo3n83o.cloudfront.net/content/02-IMAGE-5aadbde8c9346ce0d16cd0fb/renditions/ab911229-0c5b-418c-8183-9605b8cfbf6e/MethodologyFlowchart.gif?response-content-disposition=attachment;filename=MethodologyFlowchart.gif&Expires=1526913488&Signature=Tscf5o1tNBwvuiRz0OGef81SW5yf4sdbUoAD-pwGMEvAOiZx7wzB2Az4OsTqFWW9nhDcu9KSvE11eiMq-f6449sZsVhwNfoGh0ist2eCQSvWgZ0opgDsK63bOfPa8noTeURqG3ZPQl9Lpyr~MejVZ3PJJUfUFLWH-GXt6YOiixQ_&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJGHAFQEY6NSGTAWA THIS IS DUE ON FRIDAY, MAY 25, 2018 @4PM CST

Question 502 Gender and Health

Choose a person to interview from a different cultural background and gender. Use the Health Behaviors Questionnaire located in the Required Resources to interview your chosen person and yourself. Write up the responses from both interviews. Analyze the responses: What kind of similarities and differences did you find between your definition of “being healthy” and your partner’s definition? What kind of similarities and differences did you find between your responses and your partner’s responses in the attitudes and behaviors concerning gender? What, if any, are the cultural values reflected in your responses and your partner’s responses? Analyze any values you discover. How would you evaluate current psychological research as it relates to understanding culture, gender, and health attitudes? How can the knowledge of cultural differences inform social policy related to health care? Interview someone who has a different cultural background from your own and is of a different gender. Then, self-interview and compare your responses with the person you interviewed. Finally, using both sets of responses, write 3–5 pages in which you examine cross-cultural and cross-gender similarities and differences in health-related behaviors. According to Huff (1999), conceptions about health and gender held by various ethnic and immigrant groups within the United States may differ from and even contradict the health concepts of the mainstream society. This assessment will give you the opportunity to examine the concept of “being healthy” across cultures and genders, as well as look at how cultural differences inform social policy related to heath care.

Question 526 Prejudice, Stereotypes and Gender

Unit 3 Project: Design and Justify an Intervention to Reduce Prejudice (2000 words) This Project accounts for 25% of your overall grade in this module. It should be completed by the end of the unit. The suggested word count for this assignment is 2000 words (+/- 10%). To prepare for this Project: Read the literature both concerning how we can understand prejudice and stereotypes and the types of interventions that have been used in attempts to reduce prejudice. Reflect on the possibilities and the limitations of the interventions that were examined in this unit – which ideas covered in this unit have not been used to inform interventions if they were used what sorts of interventions might they support? To complete your Project: This assignment requires that you write a 2000-word proposal for an intervention that could be used to reduce prejudice within a set of your choice. It is important that you reflect on the literature concerning stereotypes, prejudice, and communication to design and justify your proposed intervention. There are many forms that this intervention might take (e.g. group awareness-raising sessions, contact between hostile or antithetical groups and/or individual interventions with key people) and many targets at whom the intervention could be aimed (e.g. school children, health care professionals or people within the education sector). The important point is to develop an intervention that you clearly justify through reference to the literature addressed in this module. Your proposed intervention should also include reflections on what problematic issues could arise (again drawing on relevant literature) and steps that might be necessary in order to maximize its potential positive impact. Advice on word count: Submissions that range from 10% below to 10% above the recommended word count are acceptable. Students should recognize that assignment submission that falls outside these parameters may be marked down since the quality of the assignment is likely to suffer accordingly (following the academic policies of the University of Roehampton). Assessment and Grading This project accounts for 25% of your grade for this module. Review the Project Rubric for information on how your assignment will be graded.

This researcher employs students from a local college, and then randomly assigns them to one of three groups—the visualization group, the mnemonic technique group, and the rote repetition group. Participants in each group receive an hour of instruction regarding how to use the particular technique to remember lists of words. After the instruction, all participants are presented with a list of 60 words that they are instructed to remember. The words are presented one-at-a time on a computer screen. After the last word is presented, all participants are instructed to recall as many words as possible by writing them on a blank sheet of paper. All participants are given 10 minutes to recall the words. Provide the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses. Question 556 Reflection Paper/Prejudice

The purpose of this assignment is to help students explore the power of social influences and apply knowledge learned in the classroom and apply it to your life. You will apply your knowledge of social psychology and are expected to write a paper that incorporates concepts, theories, and empirical findings discussed through lectures and readings, as well as one psychological research paper you find on your own which you will cite (APA style). Components: 1. Choose and describe one social psychological phenomenon (e.g., fundamental attribution bias) that your paper will be on. Make sure to define and discuss the construct of the psychological factor/bias/occurrence/phenomenon that you are discussing—this can be the definition described in the textbook, any of the other class materials, or a description/definition found from your other psychological research paper/article that you will be writing on. For example, describe what the fundamental attribution bias is, how psychologists first came to understand what it is, what possible examples of it might be, and if there are other psychological theories that might be related to it (e.g., in-group v. out-group effects). (This section should probably be no more than a few sentences to a paragraph). 2. Describe your personal experience with the social psychological phenomena that you have chosen (e.g., time(s) when you yourself were applying the fundamental attribution bias and judging/describing someone based on dispositional factors and not considering or discounting situational factors). Students will write about their own behavior at the time of the experience (i.e., what you did or what was done to you) as well as their possible thoughts and emotions before, during, and after the experience. For instance, students can write how they were thinking/feeling during the actual event and how they look back on the experience now (e.g., you did not realize that you were judging someone in terms of dispositional factors at the time but now, looking back, you realize that situational factors could have contributed to your judgment/attitude toward that individual). (This section should probably be two to three paragraphs: one describing the situation, another describing your post hoc reaction to it, having now known about the social psychological aspect). 3. Relate the social psychological phenomenon you have chosen and your experience with it to a psychology research article (i.e., through the library and a PsychInfo search). Students should briefly relate their experience to a theory, description, or finding from the research article. For instance, “Smith et al. (2017) found that individuals tend to engage in and apply the fundamental attribution error when encountering individuals from an out-group, relative to an in-group member. This was also the case relative to my own experience with the fundamental attribution error, as I was judging someone of a different racial group than me in dispositional terms (i.e., lazy); however, when someone from my own racial in-group engaged in the same behavior, I found myself more likely to think of the behavior in terms of situational variables (i.e., she was probably stuck in traffic). Students must cite their research article in APA format – both in-text citation (see the Smith et al. (2017) example above) as well as a final references page with your one reference in APA format (see below for example): Riggio, H. R., & Garcia, A. L. (2009). The power of situations: Jonestown and the fundamental attribution error. Teaching Of Psychology, 36(2), 108-112. doi:10.1080/00986280902739636 4. Lastly, students will also be graded on grammar, spelling, formatting, and the cohesiveness of their writing. So please read over, double-check, and spell check your paper before handing it in. Papers must be submitted as either Word documents or PDFs. Papers should have 1” margins on all sides, be double-spaced, and be written in 12-point Times New Roman font. Grading Criteria: • 1) Social Psychological Phenomenon: ____ / 25 points • 2) Personal Experience: ____ / 30 points • 3) Relation to Research: ____ / 30 points • 4) Organization, Syntax, Mechanics: ____ / 15 points • Total: ____ / 100 points

Question 565 integrative review

the paper is on suicidal behavior ….and 4 PSYCHOLOGY DOMAINS WHICH HAVE TO BE DISCUSSED The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains. The result of a successful integrative literature review may be a significant contribution to a particular body of knowledge and, consequently, to research and practice. Therefore, before writing this literature review, substantive new research must be conducted via the Internet and within the Ashford University Library for each of the four chosen domains. A minimum of six sources must be included for each of the four domains. Although content from literature reviews completed in prior courses within this program may be included, it may not constitute the total research for the individual domains addressed within this assignment. No more than four sources from previous literature reviews completed in this program may be utilized for this integrative review. The headings listed below must be used within the paper to delineate the sections of content. These sections include the following: a clear introduction that provides a general review and organizes the research in a meaningful way; a discussion in which the evidence is presented through analysis, critique, and synthesis; and a conclusion in which the discussion is drawn together in a meaningful way, the claims of the introduction are brought to a logical closure, and new research is proposed. Introduction Provide a conceptual framework for the review. Describe how the review will be organized. The questions below may be used to guide this section. What are the guiding theories within the domains? How are the domains connected? Are there competing points of view across the domains? Why is the integration of these domains important? What is the history of these domains? What are the related theories or findings? Describe how the literature was identified, analyzed, and synthesized. How and why was the literature chosen? What is your claim or thesis statement? Discussion Provide the analysis, critique, and synthesis for the review. Analysis Examine the main ideas and relationships presented in the literature across the four domains. Integrate concepts from the four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. What claim(s) can be made in the introduction? What evidence supports the claim(s) made in the introduction? Critique Evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the chosen research findings. How well does the literature represent the issues across the four domains? Identify the strengths and the key contributions of the literature. What, if any, deficiencies exist within the literature? Have the authors omitted any key points and/or arguments? What, if any, inaccuracies have been identified in the literature? What evidence runs contrary to the claims proposed in the introduction, and how might these be reconciled with the claims presented? Explain how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct might influence the reliability and/or generalizability of the chosen findings. Did the ethical issues influence the outcomes of the research? Were ethical considerations different across the domains? Synthesis Integrate existing ideas with new ideas to create new knowledge and new perspectives. Describe the research that has previously been done across these domains, as well as any controversies or alternate opinions that currently exist. Relate the evidence presented to the major conclusions being made. Construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to posit new relationships and perspectives on the topics within the domains. Conclusion Provide a conclusion and present potential future considerations. State your final conclusion(s). Synthesize the findings described in the discussion into a succinct summary. What questions remain? What are the possible implications of your argument for existing theories and for everyday life? Are there novel theories and/or testable hypothesizes for future research? What do the overarching implications of the studies show? Where should the research go from this point to further the understanding of these domains and the greater study of psychology? Question 577 Why are symptoms of PTSD often misinterpreted

Part 1: Initial Post Formulate a thread of 400+ answering the questions below. Citations and references are required at the end of the assignment in addition to your word count. Do not include the references in the word count. Use your book Crisis & Trauma Counseling by Dr. H. Norman wright as your reference. 1) Based upon Dr. Langberg’s lesson on coping with traumatic memory, describe how memory is affected by trauma. 2) Why are symptoms of PTSD often misinterpreted? 3) Why is treatment so important for those with PTSD? Part 2: Reply Posts Respond to the two students listed below with 200 words each, be substantive in your replies. Student 1. Misty Wood According to Langberg, those who suffer from trauma can go to extremes of remembering and forgetting and after the initial symptoms subside – forgetting is usually how the victim deals with trauma long-term (Langberg, 2001). Additionally, victims deal with memories in regards to feelings and senses, not in narratives of what happened but instead what they experienced, how they felt, what they smelled (Langberg, 2001). Since they do not simply re-tell what happened, but tell with emotion and senses, a person can often find themselves right back in the traumatic situation by re-experiencing the trauma. Langberg states that if the victim finds themselves re-experiencing, (having a flashback) it is important to reassure them that they are having a normal response and that they are safe (Langberg, 2001). Because PTSD symptoms often turn from intrusion (reliving) to constriction (amnesia – all or just gaps in memory), it may seem that the victim is better; however, Langberg warns that in fact they have entered into numbness (flat) with no emotion at all (Langberg, 2001). It is important to ask the right questions but more important to really listen. “Trauma leads to silence, isolation and helplessness”, (Langberg, 2001, 05:15) so understanding the difference between PTSD and other mental issues such as depression and anxiety is a must. To complicate things further many of the PTSD symptoms will also be linked to other mental disturbances. Langberg states that the trauma must be dealt with because one can rarely move on successfully without proper treatment (Langberg, 2001). As stated before, the victim can move from intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares to amnesia in either the entire trauma or parts of the trauma; however, these issues can quickly resurface when one faces a trigger of the particular trauma and once again they are re-experiencing (Langberg, 2001). Also, it is well known that those who do not seek help often choose to numb their pain by alcohol and non-prescription drugs which can lead to a multitude of problems with work, family and social settings. Langberg urges the church to help those in need and not to think they are better when the appearance of the initial symptoms subside (Langberg, 2001). Understanding God’s word and knowing how to incorporate prayer and scripture into counseling settings (with the counselee’s consent) can be extremely beneficial, as many have guilt or other issues surrounding the trauma that may make them feel disconnected from God. One such scripture is found in Psalms, “he sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave (Psalm 107: 20, NIV). Student 2. Angela Wright Memory can be affected by trauma in various ways and range from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some victims re-experience the trauma repeatedly in their thoughts while others are unable to remember anything (Langberg, 2001). These two differing responses are defined as intrusion and constriction (Langberg, 2001), The two very different responses can present in one victim. Due to this pendulum swing in emotions many victims can experience unpredictability and chaos as time goes on (Langberg,2001). Traumatic memories can persist for years after the tragedy has actually occurred. Victims often experience an inability to verbalize their exact feelings. Four types of memories are indicative of trauma according to Langberg; sensory memory, anguished memory, emotional memory and humiliated memory (2001). Sensory memory involves the 5 senses touch, smell, hearing, sight and also taste. Emotional memory involves the person recalling how they felt at the time of the incident such as extreme fear. Split memory also referred to as anguished memory describes life in a before and after approach ie ” before this happened” or “after it happened” (Langberg,2001). The last form of memory Langberg describes is humiliated memory. This is described as the feeling the victim has when they feel things could have been different if their actions were. PTSD is often misinterpreted due to clinicians not receiving a full picture of what is going on. Victims tend to minimize their symptoms and focus on one particular thing (Lyles, 2001). Co-morbid symptoms often take presidence over the true underlying problem of PTSD especially in the Christian population. Surface issues become the focal point of prayer rather than delving into the abyss of the root cause. PTSD must be treated because it is not something that will go away with avoidance. People suffer in silence and the disease evolves which can lead to severe depression, suicide and even homicide. Many people feel if the drastic symptoms diminish the person is cured when constriction is actually occurring. Untreated PTSD can lead to substance abuse and family erosion (Lyles, 2001). Providing an environment and program that can produce behavioral change for PTSD victims is imperative for long term functioning and recovery. Patience in this situation is necessary for both patient and helper. Romans 12:12 says, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” this should be the blueprint for all Christian counselors. Biblical application is required.

Question 583 Create a Pamphlet on Methamphetamine and Mental Health

Warm-Up Activity 9.1: How to Prepare a Pamphlet A pamphlet is an format in which you can present select and concise information to improve knowledge levels, to change someone’s attitude toward a subject, to be used in conjunction with other interventions, to educate patients, their families and professionals, and to target specific populations. The Challenge in Preparing a Pamphlet Writing an effective pamphlet is challenging. You have a limited amount of space in which to provide information. This is where organizing and outlining becomes important. 1. Determine the key concepts. Your assignment will outline several or all points that need to be covered. 2. Use headings or subtitles to address those key concepts. 3. Put the key point first in the explanation for each section. 4. Properly cite your supporting resources just as you would do with a traditional paper. NOTE: Double-check with your Mentor to see if he or she will accept footnotes rather than a reference section for your pamphlet if it helps with readability of your information. 5. Graphics, photographs, charts and other illustrations need to be appropriate to the topic and audience. Creating a Pamphlet There are a number of software programs including Microsoft Publisher that are designed to create a variety of different written materials. But you can easily create your own using Microsoft Word. Depending on the version of Word that you may have, you can open a template and simply cut and paste your information into the template. Or you can search the Internet for a free template. But you can also create a simple pamphlet in Word by following these steps. 1. Open a new file in Word, name it and save it as you would any other assignment. 2. Go to PAGE LAYOUT>MARGINS>NARROW (1/2 inch) 3. Write your text and insert graphics 4. Go to PAGE LAYOUT>ORIENTATION>LANDSCAPE. Change to landscape – 11 x 8 ½ 5. Highlight text. 6. With text highlighted, go to PAGE LAYOUT>COLUMNS>THREE. Click and save. Your file now is a draft pamphlet that you now can review, revise and proof before you submit it to your Mentor for feedback. Simple Tips Effective pamphlets are those that present information that is organized, supported with valid research, and easy to understand. 1. Use short words and sentences. Keep your audience in mind. 2. Use quotes sparingly. As a general rule, quotes have value for emphasis if you cannot rephrase the information any better in your own words. 3. Use the active voice. “Families can provide support to children struggling with homework by”… rather than “Support can be provided by the family to children struggling with homework by…” 4. Be positive. “Families should” rather than “Families should not” Presentation Tips 1. Use a simple font and no less than 12 point (footnotes should be no smaller than 9 point) 2. Use the same font throughout. 3. Use color sparingly and for emphasis only. The same goes for underlining and italics. 4. Use white space effectively. If text is squeezed together, it is hard to read. Rather, take time to edit your information so that your key concepts are clearly and simply presented. Assignment This week you are to prepare a pamphlet that can be distributed at mental health clinics, public health centers, and physicians’ offices explaining the relationship between methamphetamine and mental health. Be sure to include the following in your pamphlet: A definition of methamphetamines, their most common form and usages How methamphetamines are abused Intoxication caused by methamphetamine use Long and short term effects of methamphetamine abuse Symptoms and methods of withdrawal from methamphetamine use Psychiatric illnesses association with methamphetamine use Different ways disorders co-occur with methamphetamine (e.g., self-medications vs. meth-caused mental disorder) Treatment options and prognoses for methamphetamine addiction Support your pamphlet with the sources you located in Week 8. In addition, provide two local community resources that deal with the problem of methamphetamine and mental health issues. Your pamphlet should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Be creative while reflecting scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Question 586 peer-reviewed scientific journal article focused on a Psychology topic you find interesting

Topic: Who Da Scientist? You Da Scientist! Scientists read the work of others, think about it critically, then often decide what should be done next. That will be your task in this peerScholar activity! Specifically, your task is to find some peer-reviewed scientific journal article focused on a Psychology topic you find interesting. It can be anything related to psychology, and if you don’t know how to find articles a good place to start is Google Scholar or the U of T Library website. Try to pick one with just 1 or 2 experiments, and hopefully one that isn’t too overly technical. Then do the following … 1. Read the paper carefully and, as you do, identify the theory under investigation and the specific hypothesis drawn from that theory that is being tested. 2. Begin your peerScholar composition, with a brief summary (300-400 words )of the paper you read, making sure to explain the theory, the hypothesis, the experiment, and whether the results supported the hypothesis (and how or why). 3. Then the second part of your peerScholar composition (again, 300-400 words) should be your idea of what you think should be done next. You can propose a different way of testing the same hypothesis, or you can suggest a new or extended hypothesis that you derived from the theory, and explain how you would test that. You need to answer the following questions: What population will you be testing? What are your dependent and independent variables? How will you measure them? What is your hypothesis? What result do you expect, and why? If you saw that result what would it say about the theory? Citations You only need to read the one paper you choose, but you can also read more if you like. You must reference all papers you refer to in proper APA style. Any claim you make that is not obviously true must be backed up by a citation, in APA style. By that, we mean both an in-text citation and a reference list in APA style. If you need to learn more about APA style, check out this website. If you need further assistance, please visit the UTSC library! Word Limit Part of the task is to create an efficient argument. Your argument should be between 600 and 800 words (excluding reference list and citations). If your work is noticeably outside these guidelines, you will lose marks. Anonymity These compositions are meant to be anonymous. You should not include any identifying information with your composition. DO NOT write your name or student number in the assignment, just write your composition. Academic Integrity If you are suspected of plagiarism, the case is sent to the Departmental Chair and the Academic Integrity Office for them to meet with you and determine what sanctions will be imposed. This is a lengthy process, and your course grade will be withheld until the integrity issue is resolved. If you plagiarize, often you don’t get just zero on the assignment — it may be the case that you lose 2 or 3 times the value of the assignment from your grade. So just don’t do it! Here is a resource about how to avoid plagiarizing. If you feel you need more information on this, please visit the UTSC Writing Centre (AC210, across from the Library). They offer one-on-one drop-in sessions to help you with your writing! FAQ Q: Can I use personal pronouns? A: Yes. Q: Can I cite the textbook? A: The textbook is not a primary source. You will see throughout the book that the authors provide citations for the sources of their information, and that there is a references section at the back of the textbook. You should find the original article that the textbook is referencing, read it, and use the original work for your citation. Q: Can I go over 800 words? A: Part of your mark is for creating an efficient argument. If your work is noticeably over the word limit, the TAs will deduct marks. Q: Do I need to double space / include a running head / etc.? A: Nope, for this assignment we do require that your references be in APA style (in-text and reference list), but we aren’t concerned with spacing or the other elements of APA style for this assignment. Q: Can I make changes to my work after I’ve submitted it? A: You can edit it up until the deadline. Log in and click the orange “Create Phase” button, and then there is an “Edit” button on the top right.

Question 594 Evaluation discussions

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the Rammstedt, Kemper, & Borg (2013) and Rodrigues, & Rebelo (2013) articles for this week, and review Chapters 7 through 9 in your textbook. For this discussion, you will be taking on the role of the career counselor in a university. In this role, you will facilitate the evaluation of a student based on a five-factor personality assessment, career goals questionnaire, school and work history, and an interview with the student to make recommendations on his potential career paths. Carefully review the PSY615: Week four career counselor-based scenario. In your initial post, evaluate the personality assessment instrument used in the scenario and research a peer-reviewed article in the University Library on this personality assessment. Using the required articles as well as your researched article to support your statements, describe the standard use of this personality assessment. Based on the scenario, evaluate the reliability, validity, and cultural considerations inherent to the personality assessment used and comment on the relevance of these elements within the scenario. Recommend at least one additional best- and worst-fit work situation for the student based on your evaluation of the personality assessment’s accuracy. Analyze and describe some of the potential ethical issues which might arise from the use of this personality assessment in the given scenario. Provide information from your research on the use of the personality measure, and assess the value of other possible instruments that could be added to create a more complete assessment of the student in the scenario.
